Whirlpool's Cabrio® Platinum Laundry Pair Provides the Best Care for your Clothes

It's the age old advice your grandmother gave you – hot water washes clothes better than cold water.  Recent innovations in laundry appliances, however, have made decisions in the laundry room easier and more efficient than ever.  The new top-load Cabrio® Platinum washer and dryer by Whirlpool brand will give your clothes the best possible care and make not taking your grandmother's advice the best choice.

To help improve consumers' fabric care results, experts from the Whirlpool Institute of Fabric Science, the online hub for everything laundry, have debunked several laundry myths below.
MYTH: Cold water is not optimal for whites, and will not get your toughest stains out.
FACT:  The Cabrio® Clean Care Cycle uses adaptive wash actions combined with a concentrated solution of HE detergent and cold water to gently lift stains and soils from fabrics. The use of cold water to wash like a warm water cycle protects fabrics from heat damage and uses less energy and provides the best care for your clothes(1).
MYTH: The fewer things you put in the washer the better they will come out.
FACT:  Now wash up to three baskets of laundry in a single load and stop worrying that they won't get cleaned. The premium Cabrio washer 4.6 cu. ft. capacity wash basket adapts to both large and small loads for optimal fabric care.
MYTH: The dryer leads to shrinkage.
FACT: It's actually a lack of moisture - not heat - that causes clothes to shrink. New technology like the Advanced Moisture Sensing drying system in the Cabrio® HE dryer uses three built-in sensors to read incoming air temperature and outgoing air temperature while monitoring moisture levels inside the dryer, so the drying cycle can end when everything is perfectly dry, to prevent overdrying.
"Whirlpool brand is focused on making their consumer's lives easier," said Tremitchell Wright, Fabric Care and Engineering Expert at the Institute of Fabric Science. "With advanced intuitive features available in the premium Cabrio® HE pair consumers can stop guessing what to do in the laundry room and trust that their laundry is going to come out clean."
The new top-load HE Cabrio® Platinum washer with Clean Care Cycle is available at national retailers in white (WTW8600YW) and chrome shadow (WTW8800YC/W) with an MSRP starting at $999. The new top-load HE Cabrio® Platinum dryer is available at national retailers in white (electric WED8600YW or gas WGD8600YW) and chrome shadow (electricWED8800YC/W or gas WGD8800YC/W) with an MSRP starting at $1,099.
With nearly 100 years of practice, Whirlpool Corporation knows a thing or two about household chores. This expertise led to the creation of the Whirlpool Institute of Fabric Science. Additionally, the institute offers daily tips, tricks and advice to consumers viaTwitter and Facebook. For more information on Whirlpool brand please visit www.whirlpool.com.

Homeownership remains a preference for renters according to survey

Whirlpool Corporation and Habitat for Humanity International Study Also Finds Renters are Concerned with the Costs of their Current Residences

A recent survey on behalf of Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE: WHR) and Habitat for Humanity International conducted by the NAHB Research Center* found that individuals who are renting perceive homeownership as a preference. In fact, 68 percent of individuals currently paying rent for their residences said they would prefer to own their own houses. Although previous releases issued about this study have discussed the feeling among consumers about the cost of owning a home, this information demonstrates that regardless of concerns, the general perception among those surveyed is that they prefer to own a home. The complete study reported opinions from consumers and builders on various topics related to home building.

Approximately one-third of households in the United States live in rental housing**. There are many noteworthy challenges that come with renting and this was shown in the survey by Whirlpool and Habitat as well. The majority of renters also displayed a perception of being concerned with their costs – 60 percent said they were concerned about the cost to rent, while 52 percent said they were concerned about the cost of electric and gas bills.
"We're encouraged that this study demonstrates the desire of consumers to become home owners," said Tom Halford, general manager, contract sales and marketing, Whirlpool Corporation. "Whirlpool Corporation is proud to work with Habitat for Humanity International to help build homes that can have a positive impact on families and communities."
According to the survey, another factor when it comes to home ownership is the perceived safety. Of all renter respondents, 44 percent said they had not taken any action to increase the safety of their households in the past 6-12 months. Other respondents said they undertook minor safety precaution projects such as installing a lock on a door (32%) and putting in a smoke alarm (31%).
Besides owning their own houses, other desired changes that renters indicated they would like included having a backyard (39%), the ability to decorate (38%), upgrading appliances (36%) and increasing home eco-efficiency (31%).
"Habitat for Humanity understands the challenges faced by those who rent," said Larry Gluth, senior vice president of U.S. andCanada for Habitat for Humanity International. "We know that homeownership can improve health, physical safety, and security, and educational and job prospects increase. Home ownership is also an important means of wealth accumulation, and it can improve and stabilize neighborhoods and communities."
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that builds, rehabilitates and repairs simple, decent and affordable houses. Habitat homebuyers purchase homes at no profit and finance them with affordable loans. Whirlpool Corporation donates a range and ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerator to every Habitat home built nationally, totaling more than 125,000 appliances to-date.
This is the fifth in a series of findings from the Whirlpool Corporation and Habitat for Humanity survey on green homes that was conducted among consumers and builders. The first press release was issued on Nov. 16, 2010, the second on Jan. 20, 2011, the third on March 29, 2011 and the fourth on June 8, 2011
About Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical Christian ministry that welcomes to its work all people dedicated to the cause of eliminating poverty housing. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has built, rehabilitated, repaired or improved more than 400,000 houses worldwide, providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for more than 2 million people. For more information, or to donate or volunteer, visit Habitat.org
Methodology
The builder portion of the study surveyed 304 respondents and was conducted from July 23 – Aug. 4, 2010, using an online format. Members of the NAHB Research Center Online Builder Panel were invited to take the survey and respondents were required to be an active homebuilder or general contractor. The consumer portion surveyed 1,092 homeowners from Aug. 23-25, 2010, using an online format. Consumers nationwide were invited to take the survey through email invitations.

Survey results shows saving is important to consumers

A recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Whirlpool Corporation reveals consumers want to make a habit out of saving time, money and energy with their home appliances.

And as 2011 wraps up, they're looking for more tools to help them do just that in the new year.
According to the survey 75 percent of consumers ages 18-34 have already taken "green" steps, but they are looking to do even more to save energy, water and money. That's something companies like Whirlpool say they're keeping in mind when it comes to product development.
"We are not surprised to see that consumers are devoted to living an energy efficient lifestyle," says Monica Teague, Senior PR Manager at Whirlpool Corporation. "Whirlpool is constantly innovating new products that conserve water and reduce energy consumption in order to help consumers live a more eco-friendly lifestyle."
It's a lifestyle many are turning to and want more of. And while 78 percent are interested in monitoring their household's energy use – they're hungry for more information on how to save. According to the survey, a quarter of those interested in saving are not at all aware of the energy and water usage of their appliances.
Many consumers have already made significant lifestyle changes in an effort to save energy and money. 65 percent of consumers already use ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances and CFL light bulbs, 36 percent purchase green products when possible and 15 percent actually seek out green products, according to the survey.
And consumers seem willing to invest in saving money over time. Almost half of those who took part in the survey, 49 percent, said they would consider paying more money for an appliance if it would reduce their utility bills over time. Replacing appliances that were made before 2000 with ENERGY STAR® qualified products can help save on both energy and water costs. According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), replacing a washer and refrigerator made before 2000 with new ENERGY STAR® qualified models can save up to $135 and $40 each year, respectively.
For those not currently in the market but still looking to save, there are plenty of ways for consumers to be more efficient using the appliances they already have in their home.
  • According to the survey, 87 percent still pre-rinse their dishes (even though it's unnecessary). By scraping and skipping pre-rinsing, consumers can save up to 20 gallons of water per load and by using the dishwasher vs. handwashing save up to 230 hours per year (that's a 10-day vacation!).
  • Run your dishwasher, washer and dryer late in the evening to avoid the peak hours.
  • Proper appliance maintenance like emptying the lint trap, vacuuming refrigerator coils and cleaning your washer on a regular basis can help keep appliances running efficiently.
  • Use pots and pans with flat bottoms that fit the burners. A 6" pot on an 8" burner wastes over 40 percent of that burner's heat. Using the right sized pot can save up to $36 annually for an electric range, and $18 for a gas range.
  • Don't open the oven door during cooking; each time you open the door, you can lose about 25 - 30 degrees of heat. Try cooking with a full oven too, and using the broiler when possible, which uses less energy and does not require preheating.
This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Whirlpool Corporation from May 18-20, 2011 among 2,407 adults ages 18 and older. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated. For complete survey methodology, including weighting variables, please contact media@whirlpool.com.

Apartment-dwellers and owners of cramped kitchens rejoice!  Space constraints will no long limit style and function in the kitchen. Whirlpool brand has introduced a 30" French Door Bottom Mount refrigerator that will fit into a standard top-mount refrigerator opening.

The 30" French Door Bottom Mount refrigerator is available in a variety of models (WRF560SEY, WRF560SMY, WRF560SFY) at retailers nationwide and comes in black, white or stainless steel with an MSRP ranging from $1,499 to $1,799.

Kitchen Clean Up Month

The kitchen is often referred to as the heart of the home. Consequently, it is typically the busiest – and messiest – room in the house. Finding the time and patience to clean and organize this high-traffic hub is tough and getting motivated can be nearly impossible.  This year, to celebrate Whirlpool brand's third annual "Kitchen Clean Up Month," pledge to clean-up your kitchen by tackling one major appliance per week with help from the experts at the Institute of Kitchen Science.
To help kick start your spring cleaning, the experts will be providing consumers with simple guidelines, practical advice and useful fixes to help makeover the kitchen throughout the month of April.  In addition, Whirlpool® will be giving away a different kitchen appliance each week throughout "Kitchen Clean Up Month." From April 2 – April 30, consumers can enter to win on the sweepstakes tab of Whirlpool brand's Facebook page. A winner will be chosen at random from eligible participants.
From the refrigerator to the oven and even the dishwasher and the microwave, the following tips should get you started on a deep clean. Each week, the experts will share more tricks on Whirlpool brand's Facebook page and through Twitter (@kitchenSci).
April 2nd: Clean Your Dishwasher Week
  • Do your dishes seem to have a sandy feeling leftover when you take them out of the dishwasher? Well, did you know even an appliance made for cleaning can benefit from a cleaning itself?  The chemistry used in the new formula of affresh® Dishwasher Cleaner uses environmentally safe ingredients and offers improved cleaning performance to help remove mineral residue in dishwashers.  All it takes is a monthly cleaning routine to keep a dishwasher looking like new.
  • Make sure to check the detergent dispenser, to ensure there is no leftover detergent in or around the dispenser that would inhibit it from opening.  Also, if you use a rinse aid make sure to wipe up any spills when you refill, as rinse aids will cause unwanted sudsing in the dishwasher.
April 9th: Clean Your Refrigerator (and Freezer!) Week
  • Does your refrigerator have a leftover odor, even after you have thrown out all the expired food? It's time for a full cleaning. Start by thoroughly hand washing, rinsing and drying the removable parts and interior surfaces of the refrigerator. Use a clean sponge or soft cloth and a mild detergent in warm water; make sure to check that there is no leftover moisture. Finally, clean the refrigerator door gaskets, as kitchen spills can splash in there and hide.
  • And don't forget about the freezer – a simple tip is to rotate food items and check the date, to ensure that older items get selected first.
April 16th: Clean Your Microwave Week
  • Did the oatmeal you were heating overflow or even burst – and now is caked onto the cavity of the microwave? Put a cup of water in the microwave, let boil for 3-4 minutes to create moisture on the cavity walls to loosen anything that has been caked on.  Here's an added tip – add some lemon juice to the water to make your microwave smell great.
April 23rd: Clean Your Oven Week
  • Whether you're a cook or a baker, oven spills happen to everyone. Even if you own a traditional self-cleaning oven, manually cleaning grease and stuck on food can be quick and easy with the right product.  Start by ensuring oven is cool and removing oven racks. Then use a scour pad to remove burned-on food and carbon.  Spray a cleaning solution, like affresh™ Kitchen & appliance cleaner directly on insides of oven and wipe clean. A new technology coming out in May will make cleaning your oven a cinch by utilizing low heat and water to release baked-on spills in less than one hour.

Saint-Onge and Whirlpool brand understand that many prefer not to undertake a major overhaul and are looking for tips and products that can work creatively in their space.  According to Saint-Onge, changing your kitchen appliances can give your kitchen an instant makeover.  You can use the new look of the appliances to inspire other decorative changes in your space.  For example, many are choosing options beyond stainless steel and selecting white or black. With a collection like this, you might consider simple lacquered accessories like side tables, media consoles and bar stools.
And with the new Whirlpool® double wall oven, a unique FIT system ensures your oven can fit into any current cabinet configuration. "As a busy dad with a family - I love to cook - but the clean-up is the part that can eat up time.  That does not have to be the case anymore," says Stephen Saint-Onge, Designer Dad. "Especially cleaning the oven - the odors that get into the air during that process is frustrating for the family as a whole - now there are solutions for that too."
Whirlpool brand also introduced a new line of ranges with AquaLift™ self-clean technology that simplifies the cleaning process and gets rid of the grease and grime left behind.  AquaLift technology is 68 percent faster than traditional self-clean technology, using lower heat and just two cups of water to easily and quickly clean your oven.  The ranges are created with the modern family in mind, with features such as a split rack, Power™ burner, induction technology and the industry's largest capacity, meaning you can now cook what you want, exactly how you want it.

Copper Sinks 101

Many of today’s bathrooms and kitchens are definitely stunning. Once just considered as functional and necessary, modern homeowners are placing more focus on the design and artistic selling point of these parts of the home. They’re more functional than ever, but now they’re additionally beautiful with fine furniture-quality shelves, quarried tiles, accessories like unique bathtubs, frameless decanter, glass shower doors, captivating sinks and basins. Some of the most popular sinks available now are copper kitchen sinks.

Man has been fascinated with copper for ages. In fact, copper was one of the first metals used by man, largely due to its inherent beauty and its malleability. It could effortlessly be shaped into equipment, jewelry, cookware, basins, and sinks. Throughout history, copper sinks have been much in demand especially by way of the upper class. Copper became more affordable, so it was the first choice for sinks in most households up until World War II.

Homeowners prefer copper sinks for many reasons. First of all, it’s a natural material that gives a kitchen or bathroom a warm look. It can be formed into many different shapes as well. It’s additionally resilient to corrosion. Copper sinks actually are also able to disinfect themselves in a matter of a few hours, so all that’s needed for cleaning is a quick bath of soap and water. Furthermore, copper is a green material as it is 100% recyclable, without losing some of its intrinsic qualities. Moreover, experts say that most of all the copper ever mined holds in use today. You can’t get much greener than that!

Copper sinks are available in a number of styles and shapes, including round, oval, square, and rectangular. A very popular model may be the copper farmhouse sink, often called the copper apron sink. Consumers can also pick copper sinks with smooth or hammered textures, and intricate designs and scrollwork. Wraps up available include satin, matte, polished, and brushed. With all these choices, you’re sure to find a copper sink that could be the perfect accent for your kitchen or bathroom.

Many copper sinks are produced by hand, so virtually no two are exactly alike. These handmade copper sinks aren’t produced in higher quantities, so each one is exclusive. Also adding to their beauty is the way the sinks change over period. As the copper ages, it forms a beautiful patina that assumes shades of pale natural, sage green, and even turquoise, making the unit seem like an antique copper sink. Rest assured, however, if you don’t like this look, you can always restore your sink to its original color. When you’re building or remodeling, or if you’re just intending to replace your existing kitchen, bathroom, or bar sink, think about copper as an alternative.

Is it about time to get a new HVAC system?

Is it time to replace your home heating and cooling system? Read our comfort Q&A below to see if it’s time to take the leap:

How old is your system?

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency suggests replacing your air conditioner or heat pump if it’s more than 12 years old, and your furnace or boiler if it’s more than 15 years old. New units—especially ENERGY STAR® qualified models—have much higher efficiency levels to help lower your utility bills, and are more reliable than older systems.
Systems more than 10 years old use a lot more fuel than newer models. Review the SEER (efficiency) rating of your existing system and compare to newer models. The higher the SEER, the higher the savings you can expect. Lennox offers models rated up to 21 SEER.

How high are your repair bills?

Frequent repairs costing hundreds of dollars mean your service costs can soon exceed the cost of a new system.

 Is your home uncomfortable?

If the rooms in your home are too hot or too cold, your current system may be too large or too small, or the system may have been poorly installed. Talk to a contractor about performing a load calculation to be sure.

Is humidity, mold or dust a problem?

A dehumidification system can help remove moisture than can damage both your home and your health. Adding a germicidal light can help to eliminate contaminants at the source, keeping them from recirculating throughout your home. Replacing HVAC filters once a month also helps to keep dust under control.

Does your home score below five on the Home Energy yardstick?

See where you score on ENERGY STAR’s Home Energy yardstick versus other homeowners. If you’re using more energy at home than most Americans, then you’re probably paying more on energy bills than you need to.

Time for a change?

If your answers to the questions above show you may benefit from a new system, contact your local Lennox dealer. Find more information on Lennox’ ENERGY STAR® qualified products at www.lennox.com.

Upgrading tips on making a corporate reception example

The age old saying says that first impression may be the last impression. It’s very applicable to the reception area of an office. No wonder, corporate offices pay special care to make the reception area as attractive, posh, and exotic as they can. To put it theatrically, the reception is actually the trailer to a film, which in this case is the office. A striking, eye-catching, exciting, and gorgeous reception could be the key to attract probable clients and guests, improve clientele and generate income. A flamboyant and extravagant reception area is actually a necessity for most big time corporate offices as they have to cater to customers and clients from all around the globe.

While designing the interior of a corporate office, a total let go attitude may be utilized towards the budget. However, this doesn’t mean that it should be extra expensive. And it certainly doesn’t mean that spending loads of money offers you the best returns. Employing the proper team of interior designers, placement, and architecture of the corporate office reception is the key for any reception area to have a signature and be the star of the office.

In designing the reception area, a fair deal of freedom may be taken as compared to the rest of the office. Exotic, fashionable and chic corporate reception accessories are used to the hilt to help attract attention and make an executive statement. In the trend nowadays for corporate receptions are like fountains, life sized paintings, British long condition clocks, intricately decorated large flowerpots, metal tubs and vases among others.

There are a lot of corporate reception table designs available with materials made from mahogany, antique together with rare wood, and intricately designed out of the ordinary glass patterns. Even the panels and bulletins in the reception noticed board is decoratively carved using luxurious materials. Mirror-like flooring created from lavish Italian marbles is often seen in receptions of big time corporate offices.

In short, nothing should be ordinary in the corporate reception area. In today’s competitive global market, most big businesses are willing to hire the most equipped interior decorators so that every inch of the company speaks of exclusivity, luxury and class. More so, the reception can be considered the introduction to the whole office. A unique reception is the medium to attract attention and inspire awe and admiration.

Make Your Bed Unique and Creative

We all look forward to the comfort of our beds after having a long day. This is the place where you want to relax and have a wonderful rest to get yourself ready for the next day. It’s usually common for us to toss and turn in our beds especially if our beds are really soft and nice to lie down. It is important to have a comfortable, well-built bed to have a real good sleep of at least eight hours every night.

We may not always stick to this rule but we do spend a lot of time in bed. We have seen the same kind of rectangle and sometimes round shaped beds and have not allowed our minds to think further than that. So, we decided to provide a unique range of beds that’s beyond the usual. If you plan to get a new bed for yourself, we hope these beds would inspire you to think out of the box. Have fun!

Home Designing

When we redesign our home or design an alternative space, we tend to get carried away. With the use of unlimited suggestions and choices available, we wind up either with too much or an absence of what we first planned. Here are a few tips on what not to indulge in while adorning your dream house.

Too much perfection is for museums not your space.  While you want your property to look beautiful and appealing, remember that trying to achieve too much perfection will make you end up living uncomfortably in your own home. Let it look 'lived in' even if it means some "out of place" messiness. Allow your own house to be inviting for you and for your guests. Stick to your decision but it won’t hurt if you listen to some suggestions though. After all, it is your own property. Remember, do not try to follow each and every suggestion that comes before you decide. You can ask help and advice from others if your need to. However, always be your very best judge and decide on what you want for your home, even if it means not having the most contemporary items. You might want to remain faithful to your roots.

Don't set off haywire with paints. The color of the walls and home more or less defines the look of the house. It's a very critical decision and may not be taken based on a small chip of color. Paint a small patch to your wall before you finally decide on any color. Check the color in natural light together with your evening lamps. It is not really necessary that your favorite color would best suit your home. Find a way to add your favorite color in different sections of the house. Decide the mood of each room before you chose a color. A bright color for the kids play room, a relaxing color for a bedroom and a peaceful but interesting color for your living room are some good choices. Of course, you must think of your furniture to look good with the paint. Its always allows you chose the paints last, after you have deciding on the other components entrance.

Don't overindulge in trends. While it is not advisable to go for cheap ones and buy extra attractive furniture piece based on its eye pleasing colors or style. It is also not recommended to get expensive trendy pieces by going overboard your budget. Look for interesting styles and lines that suit your rooms as trends come and go. Look for pieces that can go on for a little bit. To gratify your trend loving instinct, add accessories (lamps/vases/artifacts) and rugs that will totally change the look of your room without making a hole in your pocket.

Furniture placed in groups on the centre gives your room an aura of warmth and friendliness rather then arranging it everywhere in different locations. If you have a large room, you can have cluster pieces of furniture with regards to conversations and seating. Don't decorate your room with mismatched household furniture. In case you have many different furniture pieces, always arrange them in a way that an area should have matching pieces rather than crowd of varied components. You can paint or even change the furniture of odd pieces to make them go with the overall look. However at times, a few contrasting components might present a unique enhancement to the room. Think about it carefully on what goes well with each other.

Don't just increase; learn to remove as well.
Just because you have a certain piece for so many years, it doesn't mean it’s still appealing enough. Learn to clear away things that have been there for such a long time. You can move it to another room or just stack them away for a little bit. Alternatively, try and refresh your furnishings by transforming the colors.

Don't overindulge in exhibit of personal valuables. While it’s fine to come up with a few family photographs and some memoirs in the form of antiques, don't make your rooms a display section of your past memories. Especially, avoid displaying a great deal of your own pictures.

Don't forget that little additions make a big difference. It may be the grand furnishings that decide the structural appeal of your space, it's your little accessories that enhance the complete ambience and add some your personality to your personal property. Add small interesting sections like table linens, dishware, glassware, sconces, roses, lamps, vases, artifacts, plants and also other ornamental bits. Adorn your rooms using splashes of color and combine it with good taste. It's worth of an additional effort.

Don't go for more when less is fine. At times one small bit of jewelry can attract more attention compared to a fully jeweled dramatic look. The same goes for decorating your space. Too many good things can really be too much. Don't cover your space with various things that end up looking being a zoo rather than your house. Add a little of this and a little of that but do not place too many variations of colors, materials, metals, wallpapers or silver leafs. Make sure to use less but elegant items to add to the 'feel good' factor to your house.
