GE Dishwasher Remember

The recall hazard involves the liquid rinse-aid dispenser which can leak into internal wiring of the dishwasher and may cause an electrical short or overheating, resulting in a possible fire hazard for consumers and homeowners.

General Electric says they have received 191 reports of overheated dishwasher wiring. There have been no injuries reported, but 56 claims for property damage and 12 cases of fire damage. The 12 reports of fire have resulted in limited damages mainly to the actual dishwasher or the area adjacent to the dishwasher.

The General Electric dishwashers included in the recall were manufactured in the U.S and sold for the price of about $400.00 in appliance and department stores from September 1997 through December 2001.
If you are using one of the recalled dishwashers you should stop using it now and contact General Electric for free repairs, a 150 rebate for a new GE dishwasher, or a $300 rebate for a new GE Profile or GE Monogram dishwasher.

When I go out on service calls for preventive maintance checks on washers and I noticed the rubber fills hoses that connect to the washer would get bubbles in them, some small, some large. Possible Reason:
The oven may not be properly preheating. In most cases, when the oven is set for a 350 F or 180 C bake cycle, the control counts down for about 6 minutes and beeps. At this time the oven cavity is conditioned but the temperature is not stabilized.

Solution:
The first step is to always adjust the rack height before preheating the oven. Place the rack so that food is near the centre of the oven. The oven bakes evenly when food is centred in the oven. Also, pans must not block airflow. Food placed too close to the top or bottom of the oven will bake and brown unevenly. See rack placement for more details.

Now preheat the oven but wait an additional 10 to 15 minutes after the beep before placing the food into the oven. This is especially important with baked goods such as cakes, cookies, breads, and pies.

Have your water tested by a laboratory.


You can have your household tap water tested for hardness, dissolved solids, iron, PH, and amount of corrosiveness by an independent, EPA certified laboratory.


Soft water is 0-3 grains.
Medium water is 3-7 grains.
Hard water is 7-12 grains.
Anything over 12 grains is extremely hard, and a water softener is recommended.
